The island group of Store Hui and Lille Hui in the skerries east of Hvasser, within Færder National Park. Store Hui is the eastern one, around 17.5 hectares (175 dekar), wooded with rock shelves along the shore. Lille Hui lies to the west of it.
Part of Færder National Park; check Naturbase for any seabird reserve or access ban. The boundaries and the rules are in Naturbase, and they are worth checking before you land anywhere outside the marked areas.
Own boat or kayak.
No scheduled boat comes here. You will have to find the nearest public quay yourself, and the rest is your own boat or a kayak. Check the wind and wave forecast before you set out; the open stretches in the outer fjord turn unpleasant in a fresh breeze.
Two monuments on Store Hui are protected: the remains of an earlier settlement and a boundary marker from the post-Reformation period, meaning after 1537. The marker says that someone divided up these islets far out in the fjord and laid claim to them. Beyond that, the written record is sparse.
Uninhabited islands in Færder National Park, used for outdoor recreation by boat owners. The area has the character of a seabird reserve.
No ferry connection; come by your own boat or kayak. Protection: the group lies within Færder National Park, established 23 August 2013, and has the character of a seabird reserve. The park's seabird reserves are normally closed to landing in the breeding season, 15 April to 15 July. Check Naturbase, the national database of protected areas, for whether Store and Lille Hui are covered before you tie up; the rules are legally binding. The protected monuments on Store Hui are not to be disturbed.
Someone set a boundary marker on an islet out in the fjord after the Reformation. Even the smallest islands here were measured and divided.
Store Hui carries traces of earlier settlement: people lived, or at least kept house, on a 17.5-hectare islet at the outer edge of the skerries.
