A scheduled boat runs all year to 22 islands and in season to 18 more, and where the timetable ends there are rowing boats, water taxis, buses and a couple of bridges. What follows is every way out, and what each one takes.

The scheduled boats

The inner-Oslo islands run on ordinary public transport: the boats from Aker brygge are part of the city network and take the same ticket as the metro. Elsewhere in the fjord the boats belong to county networks, and some must be booked ahead outside summer. The seasonal routes deserve their own caution: they vanish from the timetable outside the season, and an island that had four daily calls in July can have none in November. The category on each island page says which kind you are dealing with.

The rowing boat at the quay

0 coastal trail cabins keep a rowing boat for you at a mainland quay. You book the cabin, walk or take the bus to the quay, and row yourself over. The row varies from 50 metres to 2.5 kilometres, and the operator is honest about which crossings are demanding. DNT rents out a motorboat to one more island. For a cabin trip this is the cheapest boat on the fjord: it costs nothing beyond the booking.

Water taxi

0 cabins have a named water taxi operator in the operator's own access notes, and the details stand on each cabin's island page. Prices are set by the operator and vary with distance. Book before you travel, not from the quay.

On foot

29 islands are connected by bridge or causeway, and several cabins sit a bus ride and a short walk from the city. The weekend planner filters all of it by how you want to travel, with live cabin availability next to each row.
