The main islet in the Steilene group off Nesodden, and the one with the best facilities: small-boat harbour, beach, showers and a shared fire and barbecue site. A popular anchorage.
Persteilene is the main islet in the Steilene cluster, the one with the small-boat harbour on the inner side. In summer the boats lie packed here. This is where people go ashore to swim and grill, and it is the most developed of the five islets.

Boats do run here, but the quay is not in Entur’s system — usually a summer service or a private crossing that never enters the national journey planner. Check with the operator before you build a day around it.
Persteilene shares its name and its history with the rest of Steilene. The name comes from the execution ground: the steile was the stake and wheel where the executed were set up at the outer edge of the fairway, in plain sight of all shipping heading for the city. The islets were later used for fishing and coastal trades, and several of the buildings in the cluster are worth preserving as traces of that period.
Persteilene and the neighbouring islet Landsteilene have the best facilities in Steilene: a small-boat harbour, a sandy beach, toilets, showers, a changing room, grass and a shared barbecue and fire site. It is one of the most popular anchorages in the inner Oslofjord in summer.
The seasonal ferry Undine runs from Alværn in summer; otherwise come by private boat. This is a state-secured public recreation area with a quay and moorings in the small-boat harbour. Use the marked fire and barbecue site.
Protection: no access ban is registered on Persteilene itself, but the neighbouring islet Knerten is a bird reserve with landing prohibited from 15 April to 15 July, and Fyrsteilene has plant protection.
The name comes from the gallows. Stake and wheel stood here with the bodies of the executed, placed where nobody sailing towards Christiania could miss them.
From a pleasant barbecue islet with showers and a sandy beach it is only a few hundred metres across to the Knerten bird reserve, where you cannot land in spring and summer.
